Gwin Barnwell Dalton

Gwin Barnwell Dalton, 94, was born October 28, 1924 in Greenwood, Mississippi.  Mrs. Dalton was married to the late Robert Issac Dalton for over seventy-two years. She grew up in Gastonia, N.C. and attended the public schools before completing high school at the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Duke University in Durham, N. C.  After graduation she worked in New York applying her chemistry expertise, testing ballistics and later was named “Maid of Cotton” and traveled the United States as an ambassador for the cotton industry.  Her travels allowed her to meet dignitaries, national and state politicians, entertainers, and other famous people of the day.  She and Bob, who served overseas during WWII, raised two children, Millie and Dede and she is the proud grandmother of five and great grandmother of eight. She is an author, artist, sculptor, performed in local theatre, and along with her husband has led a life of community and church involvement.
