Edwin Morrow Ellington

Ed Ellington was born in Morgan County, Kentucky on March 6, 1921, the seventh of eight children.  When he was two years old, his family moved to Ashland, Kentucky where his father began a long career in the steel industry.  Ed matriculated through Ashland public schools and met and married Marie after graduation and before enlisting in the Army.  He attained the rank of Staff Sargent with Patton’s Third Army and was engaged in many European battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. His artillery unit was credited with downing over 70 enemy planes during his service.  After the war he returned to his Kentucky home and found a long career with ARMCO Inc. where he held many positions including metallurgist. After his retirement he felt called to the ministry and served churches in the Ashland area.  His interest are varied including a keen interest in automobiles, (specifically  Rolls Royce) and is currently an active member of Toastmasters.  Ed is the father of two children, Stephen and Judith.  He is the grandfather of four and the great grandfather of four.
