Lee Wilcox was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on September 21, 1938. An athlete for much of his high school and college years, he had never been a runner. At age 30, out of shape and a smoker, Lee discovered running while working at the University of Wisconsin in the early 1970s. Initially a recreational runner, Lee learned he had both a penchant and a talent for long-distance running. This discovery led to national championships, winning at some of the world’s biggest and toughest marathons, Nike sponsorships, and a lifetime of involvement in the running community.
Retired from a successful career as a college administrator (most recently as Vice-President of Student Affairs at Georgia Tech), Lee tells his story with self-effacing humor and a true love for the art of long-distance running.
